Roots to Wellness: Black History Month Health Fair

The Caruthersville Outreach Center’s Roots to Wellness: Black History Month Health Fair is coming to Caruthersville on February 18th!

Lincoln University Cooperative Extension’s Caruthersville team has a lot planned for the day. There are currently 35 community health vendors scheduled to attend. A healthy food box distribution will also be taking place during the event thanks to a partnership with the SEMO Food Bank Community Accelerators program. The first 300 households to attend the health fair will receive a food box!

As part of the education piece for this event, we have scheduled presentations and demonstrations on the half hour.

The schedule for the day is:

10:00 a.m. – Roots to Wellness Kickoff

10:30 a.m. – Cooking Healthy Meals Demonstration with Laveta Lockridge, LUCE EFNEP Program Assistant

11:30 a.m.– Get Moving with GeriFit Demonstration with Anthony Young, GeriFit Program Participant

12:00 p.m.– Understanding Your Highs & Lows of Diabetes with Tisha Williams, VNA Community Liaison

12:30 p.m. – Competency in the Kitchen Cooking Demonstration with Jacob Smith, DEAOC Adult Education Program

1:00 p.m.– Compassion & Care: Understanding Hospice with Annalea Craig, Legacy Hospice Consultant

1:30 p.m.– Stay Strong, Stay Healthy Demonstration with Eric Johnson, MU Extension Field Specialist in Nutrition & Health

2:00 p.m. – Medical Complications of STDs with Phyllis Flanigan

2:30 p.m.– Let’s Talk About Kidney Health with Brandie Henson, Dialysis Technician at Davita Hope Again Dialysis Center

3:00 p.m. – Wrap-Up & Announcement of Raffle Winners
