In "The Crossroads Connection," Pastor Danny Neal explores the metaphor of the potter and the clay from the Book of Jeremiah. He emphasizes trusting God's guidance and purpose, even through life's challenges.

The CrossRoads Connection: The Potters House

This week I want to share a message about the potter and the clay as from the book of Jeremiah.

Most of us talk to God and visit with the Father through prayer but sometimes, we need a word from The Lord. How many would like to know how to get a word from the Lord? Hang on friend cause I’m going to try and help you today!

My friend, there is a famine in the land. A famine of the things of God, of the Truth, of the Word of God. Many churches are declining, people are losing hope, quitting God, missing church, stopped believing, while some are turning to psychics, the occult, spiritual charlatans, and to anyone who will tell them what they want to hear! We are living in a time when many want it their way and will not listen to sound doctrine! We are living in a time where men and women are seeking their own way!

We all deal with full grown up, adult problems, and we can’t stomp our feet and pout and fall on the floor like a toddler and get our way with God! He desires to give us strength and hope to deal with our adult life problems!

Jeremiah 18:1-4 The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words. Then I went down to the potter’s house, and behold, he wrought a work on the wheels. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so, he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

The Lord told Jeremiah, GO!

“God won’t take you to a dead place unless there is something that needs to be raised from the dead!”

The Lord took him to a pottery shop! He said, Go, “There” and I will cause you to hear my words! You can’t just go where you want and hear from The Lord! You can’t just say well I’ll go over there, or I’ll go over there so I can get a word! You will only see God’s will at work and hear God speak to you when you go where He tells you to go!

As he looked thru the dusty windows of the potter’s house, he saw three things.

POTTER – a Creator, a skilled, intelligent, and capable craftsman. He sees a person with experience in making vessels.

WHEELS – the wheels to turn the clay. This is the very tool the Potter will use to work His design, His will, and His purpose in the clay.

CLAY – the raw material through which the intent and purpose of the Potter will be manifested. It is cold and without form, just clay.

God is the potter, and we are clay. The potter takes the clay and puts it on the wheel. He has a plan, a vision of exactly what the clay should be, and as the wheel begins to turn, He places the blob of clay in the center of the wheel and centers it with his hands. Then He begins to put pressure on the lump of clay. His hands are massive and can apply great pressure but at the same time can be tender and gentle. As the clay turns, it may dry a little so He reaches for the water, (The Holy Spirit) so the clay will remain moist, He fashions the clay! The clay is pliable and yielding to every gentle move!

We need to see God’s hand in every circumstance of life. Church, God has us in His hands and is working a work in our lives! Every circumstance we go through, small or great, if we are in His hands, God is there! Rom 9:21 KJV - 21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honor, and another unto dishonor? It’s up to Him what He makes us into and what He takes us through!

Listen Church! God has a purpose for us. A lump of clay doesn’t know anything. It doesn’t tell the potter what to make it into! The only thing the clay can do is submit to hand of the Potter or get off the wheel!

The wheel of the potter is a trial for the clay. The clay is just fine to sit still but the Potter knows how great of a vessel He can produce if He can get the clay get on the wheel. Our clay doesn’t like the wheel! We are about to be pressed and pulled. We are going to get dizzy going in circles!

Sometimes, while He was working on the vessel, something came out of the clay, an impurity, the clay had something which caused hidden and caused the vessel to be marred. A hard spot, a foreign object, a pebble that ought not be there. The vessel is damaged but it’s still on the wheel and it’s still in the Hand of the Potter.

He doesn’t get the clay and say, this worthless piece of clay. No, He stops the wheel, removes the object, and starts the process right again. He doesn’t throw the clay away!!! God never changes His original purpose for our lives! You may feel you have been too wrong for too long, get back on the wheel! God can remake a marred vessel. He is the God of many chances, get back on the wheel!

Let Him dip His hands into the water of the Holy Spirit and work out the hard and dry areas of your life. Let Him mold and make you into that vessel He wants you to be. Don’t resist Him in your life, He is not through, get back on the wheel, let Him complete what He started in your life!!

Until next week,

Pastor Danny Neal, CrossRoads Church
